I’m having now to come off my exciting win at the Wildflower! Arts And Music Festival’s Performing Songwriter Competition!
Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival is put on by the City of Richardson, TX (a suburb of Dallas) and is home to one of the most prestigious songwriting competitions in the USA! They’ve been operating the festival since 1993 and hosts one of the best singer/songwriter stages in Texas, working with Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse, The Kerrville Folk Festival (ever heard of them?), and the Dallas Songwriter’s Association to bring some of the greatest songwriters onto the Eisemann Center Stage in Richardson.
Among the people who have also won this competition in the past were some of my favorites like Ruthie Foster, Claude “Butch” Morgan (you can hear him on my new album!), and San Antonio’s Nicolette Good.
The competition was stiff with songwriters from all over the USA, but I was chosen as one of the top 3 songwriters to go home with the gold. Other winners were Terry Holder from Olympia, Washington and Daniel Makins from San Angelo, TX. One of my favorite songs from the whole competition was written by Mrs. Terry Holder and Andi Renfree of 2-Bit Palomino called “Peter Pan”. It was written for all the children that pass away too early with the line “I miss you Peter Pan”. Heart wrenching and incredibly memorable I wouldn’t be surprised if you heard it at an Ashlee Rose concert in the near future 😉
The Michael Terry people’s choice award was given to Chris Alvarado from Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Chris is an incredibly talented performer and songwriter. He uses an effects pedal board complete with a vocal harmonizer and a huge looper pedal. I wish I could use a looper pedal like he does… it was amazing to watch and inspiring for us musicians. He also makes BEAUTIFUL guitars. That’s right, y’all. He MAKES guitars and they are awesome (google Driftwood guitars).
Among the other performers at the festival on the songwriter stage were The Waymores of Nashville, TN; Slaid Cleaves of Austin, TX; and Terri Hendrix of San Marcos, TX. It was incredibly inspiring to share the stage with these great artists.
With my winnings I am redecorating our office in our house to be the office/songwriting studio. You WILL be hearing more from little Ashlee Rose.
